This highly contemporary reworking of
The Wizard of Oz stays closely to the much loved story as Dorothy is once again whisked off to the land of Oz on a whirlwind, so that she can skip along the Yellow Brick Road with familiar characters such as the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Lion, an extremely Wicked Witch and a Wonderful Wizard. The powerful new score is a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel and soul that provides inspiration for some electrifying dance numbers.

Production details
Beacons, Icons and Dykons presents an evening of performance inspired by and featuring the best moments from musical spectacular The Wiz. (Sidney Lumet, 1978). Starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor, the film retells the classic tale of the Wizard of Oz with an African American cast, where the Land of Oz is a fantasy version of New York City. A host of BID's favourites will punctuate the evening with performance as we show the film's best moments. Performers include Harold Offeh, who employs humour and explores aspects of contemporary culture, multidimensional artist and professional show-off Steve Nice, Paula Varjack who explores identity, the unsaid, and making the invisible visible and BID's very own Tom Marshman.
