Armine, Sister

Armine, SisterT0729456936
Armine, Sister is dedicated to Armenian history and culture and to the Armenian genocide. We gaze at history through a peephole, seeing only a trace, a shadow, a thought. Armine, Sister tackles the issue of historic taboos and lies. It is an attempt to identify our place in relation to past generations and to understand who we are. Using intense physicality, Teatr ZAR delivers a powerful performance through music and movement. The result is a score that evokes intensity in each and every drop of sound, combined with affecting, visceral movement in this haunting piece of work. Armine, Sister was developed with musicians from Asia Minor, Anatolia and Iran: Kurdish singer Dengbej Kazo; Murat Iclinalca, the Armenian master singer at St Gregory the Illuminator Church in Istanbul; Teheran-born sisters Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat; and Armenian-born composer and drummer, Vahan Kerovpyan. A key collaborator is Aram Kerovpyan, the Istanbul-born master singer of the Armenian Cathedral in Paris.
