Blame it on my Mouth
Paul Ryan and Kenny Clayton return to Crazy Coqs after their sell-out debut in April and draw on their vast repertoire for a new selection of gems by Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Rodgers and Hart, Jimmy Van Heusen, Sammy Cahn, Jerome Kern, the Gershwins and other creators of the Great American Songbook. The show's title is taken from the Oscar Levant ballad, one of many neglected classics that feature alongside familiar hits and rediscovered rarities. Ryan was a favourite vocalist of the late jazz critic Jack Massarik and his impeccable phrasing and sensitive reading of a lyric is matched by the superb musicianship that has long marked Clayton out as one of the UK's leading pianists, arrangers, composers and musical directors (for Matt Monro, Dick Haymes, Petula Clark and many more).
