Production details
The first half consists entirely of Beethoven. First we hear the brief and tender 'Andante favori', and following it the mystical explorations and vivid contrasts of the composer's final Sonata in C minor, Op.111. In the second half, Freire turns his attention to the Romantic repertoire. Two of Debussy's Preludes are matched with two of Rachmaninov's best-loved Preludes, short, atmospheric pieces rich in melody and expressiveness. The programme closes with a selection of Chopin classics. Queen Elizabeth Hall
