Untouchable looks hopefully at recovery for a family in constant negotiation with the repercussions of a violent history. It's been 11 years since that Man has been out of our lives, but the scars are with us still. Will we ever recover as a family? Growing up in the '90s, in a violent home on an East Midlands council estate, wasn't what I would have chosen for an upbringing. After calling the police daily, repeatedly hitch-hiking to safety with my kid brothers and surviving my childhood, I consider the different kinds of love necessary for an often callous family dynamic. Untouchable is a piece about hope, endurance and survival. It's about finding the courage to speak out. It's about hidden realities of everyday life that happen behind closed doors. It's about real people, a family, and invisible scars that haven't healed. It's about our media, our government, our value systems, and where our society is failing its children.
Untouchable pays homage to a violent past, in a difficult present. Whilst tender and courageous, this piece has guts and grit offering an insight into a complex multi-racial family living in a world of abuse.
