Cul de Sac - A contemporary circus piece. Using Juggling and Chinese pole, the two performers constantly aim to break the boundaries between opposites in order to reach a common place, from where an intense dialogue emerges. Efecto Chopped is an emerging Contemporary Circus Company based in London. Both Spanish, Gemma and Jose graduated at the National Centre for Circus Arts and their paths crossed while they shared studio space. After graduating they have been searching for different approaches to circus vocabulary using a range of similar artistic languages. They came to the conclusion that they hold the same understanding of performances and so decided to join up as a team, sharing skills: Jose as an individual and creative juggler and Gemma as a strong, graceful chinese pole artist. Cul de Sac is born from that need to fuse both skills.
The Sense of an Ending (excerpt) - Through honest, exposing and poignant dance theatre, the production represents women of the North by sharing their true stories of how they chose to survive life changing moments. The Sense of an Ending is a love letter to women everywhere who have survival stories that may have never been told, and is a celebration of their strength, intuition and courage. It exposes the impact these moments can have on how women conduct their future, and the knowledge their stories hold that could aid the next generation. Red Road Dance Theatre is a North East based company interested in lifting the lid on what it is to be human in today's world. Thank you to all the women who told us their stories.
