This compelling piece, is set in Stalingrad during WWII. It's the time of the German invasion when the city is being reduced to rubble and remaining inhabitants are forced to survive as best they can underground in sewers and cellars. It is one of these sewers that a group of privileged girl Pioneers come across some ragged-looking boys from an orphanage. As the battle rages over their heads, the boys and girls must struggle to understand each other as they fight to survive.
