Humans 2.0 - T0176993725

Ten bodies appear in a flash of light. They move in harmony for a fleeting moment and then descend into a sinuous trance. Towers grow and decay, bodies leap and are caught, as physical limits are pushed to their extreme. Can we ever find a perfect balance or is adapting to constant change the only way forward? A tightly woven choreography of bodies, pulsing with music, Humans 2.0 is intimate, primal and deeply engaged with the challenge of being human.

Il Ritorno (The Return) - T285400190

Live opera fuses with the thrilling physicality of contemporary circus in a potent production that draws on history and mythology to tell a timeless tale of exile, displacement and longing for home. Out of the darkness, Ulysses returns from twenty years of wandering and war, hoping to be reunited with his wife Penelope. But can he reach her before she succumbs to one of her suitors? Forming the narrative basis of this new work by Circa, Monteverdi's opera The Return of Ulysses (Il ritorno d'Ulisse) is layered over themes from Primo Levi's book The Truce - a testimony of a Second World War refugee. Driven by a score melding Monteverdi, traditional folk songs and original composition, Il Ritorno sees singers and musicians join the company's artists whose expressive, dynamic, integrated acrobatics push their bodies to the extreme. Audaciously blurring the lines between circus, theatre, art and dance, Australian ensemble Circa regularly delights audiences with electrically charged shows. Beyond - T889209373

Internationally acclaimed ensemble Circa invite you to step Beyond, into a mysterious world where bestial comedy meets irreverent vaudeville. Beyond crosses the line between human and animal, between madness and sanity, between logic and dream. From the company behind last year's smash-hit Wunderkammer (winner of a 2013 Herald Angel) comes Beyond. Stunningly uncanny performances, world class circus acts, blindfolds, Rubik's Cubes and rabbit heads come together with a backdrop of show tunes, electronica and rock ballads. Beyond conjures up a sublimely beautiful and curiously tender surreal realm where Alice in Wonderland meets Charles Darwin. Set on multiple stages within stages, small red-curtained worlds offer a glimpse into a dreamy and hallucinogenic place. Beyond is a cabaret, a zoo, an asylum and a stage where seven artists gather to express their inner-selves and connect with each other and the audience. Over the course of Beyond we marvel at their skills and enter their personalities. Beyond blurs the line between man and beast. Circa knows how to combine captivating skill sets with fast-paced madness and comedy in a way that leaves their audiences gasping for more. With productions that have toured to 27 countries across six continents since 2006, Circa's work is a stripped back circus of the heart. It finds new emotional landscapes inside what is generally considered to be a spectacle. What happens down Circa's rabbit hole and ?beyond' reminds us of the power of the human body and quite how exciting circus can be.
