Double G
Join Birmingham’s own Gemma Goggin at the Old Joint Stock Theatre. Following her successful Edinburgh debut with the one woman Stand-Up show “Get Laid or Die Trying” at the Gilded Balloon (directed by Logan Murray), she is currently preparing her new show "Gemma Goggin: Double G", which will preview at the OJST on Wednesday 20 July at 8pm. Originally from Birmingham, the daughter of 2 fairly repressed Irish Catholics, Gemma has sought to talk about the things we don’t like to talk about - a little inappropriate, a little filthy on occasion, and a whole lot of laughter along the way. Gemma entered the world of stand up in 2008, after deciding a challenge was in order. It was that or a sky dive. But she feared the sky dive might render her incapable of standing up ever again, so comedy won the day. She headed to the bright lights of London aged 18, and following an English Degree at Kings College, she trained as an actress and singer at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Gemma does Stand-Up in and around London (recent gigs include Funny Women, Horley Comedy Festival, Leicester Square Working Men’s Club, and Finger in The Pie Cabaret at Madame JoJo’s), and she is starting to seek gigs further afield, currently courtesy of National Rail and taxis, having not driven a car since passing her test in 1997..! Gemma is also writing a sitcom pilot with playwright Declan Feenan.
