Production details

A double Edinburgh warm-up, with Pete Cain's laid back 'lazy man' who wants to change the world dark routine, plus Geoff Norcott. Pete Cain ambled onto the comedy scene a couple of years ago with his ‘lazy man’ routine, immediately putting audiences at ease with his laid-back, couldn't give a monkeys, approach. With dry, intelligent and highly original material he made the audience earn their laughter by forcing then to think about the joke before they could laugh at it. However, this year Cain has taken a rather different course. He’s gone dark, very dark. Touching on many taboo subjects (the Tsunami, Hitler, disability and the benefits of killing in this overpopulated world), initially, the audience are shocked - but it’s not long before the laughter comes, as he repeatedly pulls the rug from beneath the feet of their preconceptions. It soon becomes clear that he isn’t doing it purely to shock. He just wants the audience’s full attention, which he most certainly gets. Under pining it all is a message. He’s trying to make us understand, 'People Power' and how everyone pulling together is the only way we’re going to change the world for the better. Ambitious indeed, but he does have a point and it’s impossible not to leave thinking slightly differently to how you did, when you arrived. A show for anyone who survived being 13. Geoff Norcott is hurtling towards 30, married, and, despite his sense that he should be developing interests in golf and DIY, he finds himself growing increasingly fond of violent computer games and rappers who swear a lot. In light of growing public desire to curtail teenage liberties, and his own inability to grow up, he has developed a sense of empathy for one of the most pilloried generations of young adults since the punk era. In his first full-length show, Geoff analyses the awkward experience of being aged 13-19 on a personal and historical level, trying to discover the roots of his empathy, wondering if he will ever stop sniggering during sad films or feel like a proper man when he goes to hardware stores. Geoff Norcott has made a real impact on the national comedy circuit since he first took to the stage in 2001. His abundance of energy combined with a storming mix of impressions, observations, satire and rap, make him a versatile and original performer. Geoff is equally at home as compere or act and wants everyone to have a good time, which is immediately apparent as soon as he takes the mic. Last summer Geoff starred in SHOP IDOL, a short film for Jimmy Razor Productions and plans to do more work in front of the camera soon. Geoff is soon to be seen in a new show for BBC 2 called "Must Try Harder" - about celebrities going back through their old school reports. Geoff, an ex-teacher and now full time comedian, was the perfect choice for the job - having himself written many school reports.Geoff is also a gifted writer and is currently developing ideas for radio and animation.
