BBC Big Band and Ken Peplowski - T1041029394The two musicians join the BBC Big Band for a musical celebration of swing-legend Benny Goodman. Regarded as one of the UK s most versatile jazz orchestras, the band broadcasts on BBC Radio, particularly BBC Radio 2 s long-running Big Band Special. Ken Peplowski had often been compared with Benny Goodman in style and tone. He began his career after college with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Buddy Morrow and went on to play for Benny Goodman in 1984 on tenor saxophone. Since his days with Benny Goodman, Ken has recorded over 20 albums including The Natural Touch in 1992 which won Best Jazz Record of the Year by the Prises Deutschen Schallplatten Kritiken. His most recent releases have been Happy Reunion with Alan Barnes and Like a Lover with Nicki Parrott. He has received a lifetime achievement award from the Elkhart Jazz Festival and has been musical director for The Jazz Cruise, the Oregon Festival of American Music and the Eugene Oregon Jazz Festival. Joining Ken and the BBC Big Band is international vocalist Louise Cookman, known for her affinity with the dance band vocalists of the 1930s and 40s such as Helen Forrest, Peggy Lee and Helen Ward as well as the bands of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Harry James. | |
