Abida Parween, one of the subcontinent's powerful vocalists, hails from Sindh, Pakistan. Sindh claims to be the home of Sufism whose mysticism pervades the region and is reflected in Abida's repertoire which includes ufi kalams (verses/couplets), ghazals (Urdu poetry), geets and kafi in Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi and Seraiki. The emotional zeal and near-frenzy of her performance takes the listener into a state of ecstasy and intoxication.
