Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas was born in Havana, Cuba, and trained at high profile music colleges in Cuba and the UK. A sophisticated virtuoso on his instrument, he specialises in a repertoire by Cuban composers, from classical works to the more contemporary ‘filin’ movement. A strong solo artist, he also frequently collaborates with some of Britain’s leading artists such as Eduardo Niebla and dance star Carlos Acosta among others. With his Trio Mestizo, percussion and violin add well-crafted touches to the intricate soundscape of this lively and fresh repertoire combining traditional Cuban and Latin American genres and classical styles, with a hint of jazz.
