Details
A key figure on the British jazz scene since the late 1970s, Alan Barnes' strong tone, assured improvisations and imaginative arranging technique have marked him out as one of the country's top players, respected by both his audience and fellow players alike. The award-winning and ever popular Alan Barnes returns with a distinctive group not seen at the Arts Centre before. Featuring mainly clarinet but also some alto saxophone, and accompanied by two virtuoso young players, Jim Hart on vibraphone and Paul Clarvis on drums and percussion, the group was initially formed to explore the Benny Goodman small group repertoire. Since then it’s expanded to include Billie Holiday, Django Reinhardt, Irving Fazola and the more modern Hermeto Pascoal. Expect an entertaining evening backed up with great musicianship and some lively group interplay.
