Work type: ConcertSunday Morning Series - T01414707536Romanian pianist Alexandra Dariescu returns to Nottingham following her acclaimed performance of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto at the Royal Concert Hall last season. Beethoven also features in this programme in the form of his 32 Variations, a novel approach to the Baroque variation form which here delights in rich textures and intricate cross-rhythms. Two pieces by Liszt make up the heart of the programme – his heartfelt 2nd Ballade and his transcription of the famous Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde which brilliantly captures the overpowering longing of Wagner’s opera. Completing the concert are Chopin’s Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise which embody both the composer’s liquid lyricism and his quicksilver brilliance. | |
