The blues came from Africa, and nowhere can that be heard more clearly than in the powerful guitar playing and mournful singing of Ali Farka Toure, an international star since his collaboration with Ry Cooder on Talking Timbuktu won a Grammy award. This is a rare live performance from a very private man, whose affinity with his music remains so fresh and deeply rooted. Afel Bocoum has been a member of Ali's group for 30 years, but it was his recent album Alikar that brought his infectious rhythms to an international audience. This concert sees him perform with his own band flown in from Mali.
