Alim Qasimov sings in the Mugham tradition, a modal music from Azerbaijan pervaded by Middle Eastern and Eastern influences, and widespread in the Islamic countries of Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Qasimov has uniquely developed this tradition - an Azerbaijani parallel to the ecstatic Qawaali singing generating blazing power at a sustained, driving pace.
