Artur Pizarro, the Portuguese virtuoso who has been immensely popular with audiences since winning the Leeds Piano Competition in 1990, brings a truly dazzling programme to the series. The vivid Spanish colour-palette of Granados’s Goyescas gives way after the interval to the fascinating, fantastical creations of Gaspard de la nuit, Ravel’s most demanding piano work, and the evening ends with Prokofiev’s overwhelming Seventh Sonata.
