From Pomeroy in co. Tyrone, Cathal has been steeped in traditional music from his earliest years. He had already won all-Ireland championships at all levels, on the tenor banjo before taking up the fiddle, but within a year he was all-Ireland champion on this instrument also, and he's stayed with the fiddle, his unique style of playing becoming his trademark.
