The South Bronx punk-funk pioneers play a rare UK show. One of the most influential bands to emerge from New York's fertile early 80s period, ESG played a sparse, percussion-led sound that saw them sampled extensively in the same city's emergent hip-hop scene. Their debut album Come Away with ESG, produced by the legendary Martin Hannett (Joy Division), was named by Pitchfork as one of the top 100 albums of the 1980s and their impact continues to be felt across post-punk bands and house music. Their distinctive break-beats can be found in the work of bands such as Wu Tang Clan and the Beastie Boys, and they have continued to tour and release records since re-forming in the early 90s.
