Production details

As part of Southbank Centre's Women of the World festival, Montero spotlights a remarkable female composer - Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann. Clara was a child prodigy and gifted composer who, most unusually for a woman in the mid 19th century, combined an international performing career with a devoted marriage and raising a family of seven children. Montero performs Clara's highly expressive Sonata in G minor alongside Robert's Fantasy in C major, a masterpiece inspired by his passion for her. The rest of the concert is a feast of Montero's improvisation - a rare treat for all music-lovers. Queen Elizabeth Hall
