Jack and Charlie return to the OJST for another evening of innovative folk, playing music from their new album, released this summer. Jack and Charlie have been playing together for three years…in that time they have been finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, released their debut album LIGHT UP ALL THE BEACONS for Fellside Records and played lots of different gigs all over the country. Jack is a singer and guitarist from Cumbria and Charlie is a fiddle player from Hampshire. The two met studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire where they are both members of Joe Broughton’s (the Albion Band) Conservatoire Folk Ensemble. In May (2008) the ensemble completed an 11date tour in which they featured as a duo. They have played Warwick and Ireby folk festivals, playing the main stage at both festivals and opening the main stage at Ireby 2008 ahead of the Wailin’ Jennies and the Paperboys on the Saturday night. They have also played Fareham, Moselely and Bromyard festivals. They have played support for Kirsty McGee and Mat Martin and at the Red Lion in Birmingham for Dave Swarbrick and Martin Carthy and John Spiers and Jon Boden. They also have their own sets at folk clubs including the Focsle, the Woolston and Bursledon folk clubs in Hampshire, the Hare and Hounds in Kent and the Newhampton Inn in Wolverhampton. Jack and Charlie write all their own songs and music.
