Behold, the peaceful Scottish sea-side village of Cellardyke, hidden away in the East Neuk of Fife - home to a loose-knit community of artists and creative types, happy to exist on the fringes, away from the exorbitant rents and beer prices of the big smoke. Indeed, who is that on the shorefront, howling his lungs out in the tattie-brown baseball cap and striking maroon corduroy trousers? Why, it's beach-crooner, pub-comber and local pop star, James Yorkston, of course - and he very much wants you to join The Cellardyke Recording And Wassailing Society (CRAWS). On this, his eighth studio album of original material for Domino Records, singer-songwriter James Yorkston takes the listener off the road, inviting us into much more intimate territory; arguably his most personal record yet, these are reflective and affectionate songs about life closer to home, fatherhood and the people dearest to his heart.Presented byDLWP. The Pictish Trail & Seamus Fogarty - T591125027

Three leading lights of Scotland's Fence Collective, based in Anstruther, will be performing at the Byre Theatre to collaborate on stage, share songs, a laugh and some blether. James Yorkston was the first member of The Fence Collective and has toured with the likes of Bert Jansch, John Martyn and Martin Carthy. His first Album went onto become Rough Trade's Album of the Year 2002 The Pictish Trail is the nom de plume of singer-songwriter Johnny Lynch His music is a sonorous mixture of acoustic-driven balladry and lo-fi synthesised pop, that has been described as "a post-summer trove of sun-warped electro, anamorphic folk" Plan B Magazine. Seamus Fogarty musical endeavours reflect a wide scope of ambition, expressed with the same modest confidence that betrays an immense talent. Seamus's songwriting, performance and production techniques are each infused with a strong sense of identity, strikingly unique, and always sincere.

James Yorkston has been an influence on K T Tunstall and The Beta Band. He’s toured with Lambchop and Tindersticks and - along with Kind Creosote - is part of the acclaimed Fence Collective. Oh, and he’s also been produced by Four Tet. Through Domino Records and Faber he has a book out called It’s Lovely to Be Here: The Touring Diaries of a Scottish Gent. Tonight he will be playing songs (contemporary, alt-folk) from throughout his career and reading from his book. The ever-popular comedienne Josie Long is his support act for tonight, and what she’ll do is anyone’s guess. But expect her usual, unique brilliance.Performer Josie Long.
