T0306387505 (SOUTHBANK09)John Lill has long been among Britain’s greatest musicians, internationally acclaimed for his musical integrity, power and conviction. “What a man. What a musician” (The Herald). Tonight he focuses on works by two 19th-century giants, Schumann and Brahms. The celebrated Schumann helped to catapult the young Brahms to fame, yet their music inhabits very different soundworlds, with Schumann’s virtuosic, haunted imagination contrasted against Brahms’s structural rigour. | |
