Their 2001 season is built around the theme of '100 years of Louis Armstrong, providing a tribute to one of jazz's most charismatic figures - as Marsalis puts it 'the epitome of soul and down-home sophistication'. Armstrong was the first great instrumental soloist in jazz, the very symbol of the jazz spirit.
