Lost Music of the Gaels

The mystery of a missing music, peasant revolt and the prospect of a thousand Irish pub music sessions being consigned to the historical dustbin... This is the background for Luke Daniel's new project where the composer and accordion virtuoso stages a mythical musical boxing match between the tunes of Turloch O'Carolan, the last of the great Irish harpists and Henry Purcell, a leading English exponent of the Baroque renaissance that swept Europe in the seventeenth century. Was there a Gaelic baroque denied by history? With the help of traditional music group Broderick and the acclaimed Solaris string quartet, we lift the lid on 300 years of the music that never was...
