Probably the most widely recognised of Mozart's symphonies, No 40 was composed in 1788, at a moment when Mozart's popularity with the Viennese public was beginning to wane. The symphony's turbulent character has invited the speculation that it reflects Mozart mourning over declining fortunes. However, its distinctiveness could also be attributed to an artist's efforts to open up new creative possibilities. Make up your own mind in this Rush Hour performance. Actor Joe Caffrey will interpret Mozart's letters to provide a background to the symphonies. Rush Hour Concerts @ St Andrew's Gallowgate
