Initially rejected as too difficult to play, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto soon secured its rightful place as one of the world's great concertos. Its sumptuous melodies are only equalled by the richness of its orchestration. Dvorak's Ninth Symphony, subtitled From The New World, was written whilst he was in the United States of America and provided him with one of the greatest successes of his career. His gifts for melody and deep orchestral colour are ever present, and his innovative use of themes in every movement builds this symphony up to an electrifying climax.
