Emmanuel Pahud/Eric Le Sage - T01471248835Featured artist Emmanuel Pahud returns with his regular accompanist for a recital of pieces composed in the 1940s. Martinu's amiable work plumbs unexpected depths in its central core, while the Prokofiev Sonata's delightfully sunny nature makes it an ideal vehicle for the brilliant sparkle of the flute. In between comes the Sonatine by Dutilleux, here at his most pastoral and Debussyan, carrying the flag for the Paris Conservatoire tradition of commissioning new scores for its final examinations. Finish time: approx. 14:00Performer Emmanuel Pahud (flute). Performer Eric Le Sage (piano).

Songs of Songs: sensuous polyphony from the courts of Renaissance Europe - T1562062803The Song of Songs, whose erotic imagery set the tone of the BBC Symphony Chorus's choral matinee (Prom 30), now lends its sensuality to a lunchtime immersion in Renaissance polyphony with the Gramophone Award-winning young British vocal ensemble Stile Antico. These conductorless singers have won praise for their performances and recordings of English Tudor and Elizabethan repertoire. This lunchtime's programme range from the clarity of Clemens non Papa to the rich textures of Victoria, and from the fervour of Gombert to the vigour of Praetorius.

Joshua Bell Steven Isserlis and Denes Varjon - T01378123461Two distinguished concerto soloists (see Prom 51 & Prom 57) join forces with a brilliant young Hungarian pianist for music of poetry and drama. Schumann's four delightful character pieces were his first works for piano trio, composed in 1842 when he was experiencing what his wife Clara called 'the joy of discovering a passion for trios'. Schumann himself dubbed Mendelssohn's Opus 49 'the master trio of our age'; it carries this anniversary composer's hallmarks of an expressive 'song without words' and a fleeting 'scherzo', encircled by the Romantic sweep and grandeur of its outer movements. There will be no interval. Approx finish time: 14:00. Broadcast Live on BBC Radio 3.Performer Joshua Bell (violin). Performer Steven Isserlis (cello). Performer Denes Varjon (piano).
