Berlioz/Mendelssohn

Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé launch our bicentenary cycle of Mendelssohn's orchestral symphonies with the grand 'symphony-cantata' he wrote for the 400th anniversary of Gutenberg's invention of movable type. Francophile Susan Graham returns to sing the dying Queen of Egypt in Berlioz's dramatic cantata, prefaced by the dazzling overture the composer wrote for his opera about the great Renaissance sculptor Benvenuto Cellini. Approx end time: 21:50
