Thomas Larcher & Bruckner - T1345316920Previously featured at the Proms as a pianist (a role to which he returns in this concert, playing the prepared piano), Thomas Larcher has become one of Austria's leading composers, writing for prominent artists and ensembles in a style that steers a refreshing course between the old avant-garde and the newer wave of simplicity. Tonight sees the world premiere of a double concerto written for Viktoria Mullova and Matthew Barley. Anticipate an unconventional concertante group and an element of improvisation. After the interval, a different kind of soundscape, as Ilan Volkov and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra realise the vast architectural design of Bruckner's Fifth Symphony. Finish time: approx. 21:15Performer Viktoria Mullova (violin). Performer Matthew Barley (cello). Company BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Ilan Volkov.

BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra - T995460347Marking the 75th anniversary of the BBC Scottish SO, this packed concert recreates the night in 1962 when the orchestra first came to the Proms. A pair of Russian favourites is joined by Liszt’s punchy First Concerto, in which Boris Berezovsky adds his name to the week’s line-up of distinguished pianists. The only alteration from the original programme is that the new piece on that occasion - by Thea Musgrave (who has a commission later this season) - is replaced with a new work by another Scot, James Dillon (60 this year). Finish time: approx. 22:20Conductor Martyn Brabbins. Company BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Performer Boris Berezovsky (piano).

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain - T258486364The all-singing, all-strumming players of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have devised a special programme for their first Proms appearance, to include a rendition of that Last Night favourite, Parry's Jerusalem, as you've never heard it before. All music is fair game in this unique ensemble's book of 'depraved musicology', typically resulting in a collision of punk, rock 'n' roll and toe-tapping oldies. Other classics receiving the UOGB treatment in tonight's Prom are Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries, Eric Coates's march The Dambusters, an excerpt from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (yes, really!) - and unorthodox arrangements of songs by The Who and the Sex Pistols. You may never hear music in quite the same way again! Approx finish time: 23:10
