Sinfonia Cymru with Catrin Finch & Gareth Jones - T1622371635 Sinfonia Cymru is joined by International and renowned Welsh Harpist Catrin Finch for a beautifully balanced programme of contemporary and classical music for the harp and full orchestra. Encompassing Hungarian gypsy influences through Bartok’s work, a brand new piece based on the ancient Welsh manuscript Mabinogion, Handel’s classic harp concerto and Schubert’s dramatic and lyrical third symphony, there is something for everyone.

Ravel’s exuberant orchestral suite, Le Tombeau de Couperin, gives the woodwind section an occasion to shine while the strings get their turn in Tippett’s ‘Little Music’. Sinfonia Cymru started its residency at The Riverfront with a First Wednesday recital performed by William Stafford, a truly outstanding young clarinettist and member of Sinfonia Cymru. The orchestra will welcome William back to the stage for a performance of Mozart’s ever popular clarinet concerto which, along with Beethoven’s hard hitting first symphony, will create a wonderful night of music making not to be missed by any music lover.

Following this, the orchestra will be joined by stunning, young violinist Jiafeng Chen for a performance of ‘Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5.’ The second half of this concert will contrast beautifully as a celebration of some of the most remarkable, folk-influenced classical music ever written with Copland's masterpiece, Appalachian Spring.Conductor Gareth Jones. Fresh from his US recital debut at Carnegie Hall, Pianist Llyr Williams joins the Orchestra to perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor. Llyr Williams is in high demand as a soloist, performing with many of the UK’s leading Orchestras and appearing in music festivals worldwide. Sinfonia Cymru continue to produce world class performances, striving to bring Classical Music to all areas of Wales.

Concert :: Sinfonia Cymru was formed by Musical Director Gareth Jones and creates a unique platform to launch young players into the music profession at the beginning of their career.
