As part of Nottingham’s Light Night on Friday 12 February, the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham is hosting a free six-hour Pianothon from 6pm until midnight. This non-stop keyboard extravaganza will give audiences the unique opportunity to sample the talents of ten local pianists. There will be a wide range of musical styles on offer including classical, mellow jazz, rock ballads and boogie-woogie. Members of the public will be free to drop in and out of the event whenever they like, without the need to book tickets. The bar will be open so audiences can take their drinks into the auditorium, sit back and enjoy the artistry of some of the region’s most gifted young pianists. The Pianothon will be the first event of its kind for Nottingham, and will feature some of the region’s finest young talent. Those showcasing their work on the night will include: Henri Herbert, winner of the 2005 ‘Dog’s B*llocks Keyboardist of the Year’; Nottingham born pianist and composer, Charles Tebbs; and Mike Gowland, who has taught many of the City’s young musicians and is currently Head of the Nottingham Music School. Also performing on the Bosendorfer concert grand piano, will be thirteen-year-old prodigy, Isata Kanneh Mason, who is one of Nottingham’s biggest rising star pianists.
