Songlines returns to the Elgar Room with two fantastic acts from the Middle East. Tarek Abdallah & Adel Shams el Din (Egypt) headline the Elgar Room having released one of Songlines' albums of 2015 Wasla. Originally from Alexandria, but currently based in France, the duo are fluent in the language of Egyptian classical tradition, and able to evoke the fascinating history of this music while extending it with spirited and contemporary inspired compositions. Virtuoso Syrian kanun player Maya Youssef comes from a family of artists. Her virtuosity and unique innovative approach to playing the kanun, originally a traditional instrument, expanded her audiences to international platforms. Maya has performed all over the world and is the winner of the Exceptional Talent award which enabled her to migrate to the UK early 2012.
