Schumann’s overture from his incidental music of Byron’s dramatic poem Manfred begins the evening followed by Tchaikovsky’s romantic Violin Concerto of 1888, declared unplayable at the time, with international soloist Alexander Sitkovetsky. Brahms’ towering Fourth Symphony closes two hours of some of the greatest music of the nineteenth century.

The Festival closes with the traditional performance by the SMP, the local area’s foremost chamber orchestra. This Gala concert, attended by the Patron of the Festival, The Mayor of Guildford Councillor Pauline Searle, will include Beethoven Overture Fidelio, Haydn Symphony No. 49 – La Passione, Elgar Sea Pictures and Schumann Spring Symphony.
