Concert - T21227395Two artists united by a deep appreciation of tradition yet compelled by their desire to break it apart: Colin Dunne takes on the ?undanceable' music of the enigmatic fiddle player Tommie Potts (1912-1988). Armed with a turntable, portable speakers and sheets of flooring, Dunne enters into a creative dialogue with The Liffey Banks (1972). This rhythmically deviant, melodically resplendent album presents a singular challenge to Irish dance's most celebrated contemporary artist, as he responds physically and percussively to Potts' irregular, richly textured tunes. Created in collaboration with director Sinead Rushe and composer Mel Mercier, Concert sees Dunne draw on his extraordinary technique and deep engagement with the music to illuminate it afresh in a negotiation of old and new.Choreographer Colin Dunne. Out of Time - T70783716Out of Time is a fascinating insight into Colin Dunne’s private world as a dancer rooted in the Irish step dance tradition. In his first solo show, Dunne takes a step back from the frenetic world of competitive and commercial Irish dance in which he is internationally acclaimed to offer a contemporary perspective on the art form. Collaborating with sound engineer Fionán de Barra, Dunne creates a hauntingly evocative soundscape, mixing percussive dance with live sound processing. He is accompanied on stage by a projected filmic chorus of traditional dancers, including himself at ten years old. Intimate, personal and provocative, Out of Time looks to the past for simple beginnings as Dunne playfully renegotiates his relationship with a tradition that has shaped his life. Out of Time premiered at Glór Theatre, Ireland in January 2008. Dunne has previously performed at the Barbican in Fabulous Beast’s production of The Bull (bite07), a self-parodying role which earned him a Spotlight Award, Male Artist (Modern) nomination from the National Dance Awards Critics’ Circle. Running time 60mins with no interval.Producer Maura O'Keefe. Sound Fionan de Barra. Choreographer Colin Dunne. Director Sinead Rushe. | |
