Zarathustra Variations
When Carlotta Ikeda and Ko Murobushi presented
Zarathustra for the first time in 1980, audiences were struck by its energy and violence. This exclusively female, Butoh-inspired work confronted modern European dance with a new choreographic language. More than 25 years later, Zarathustra Variations is a long-awaited reworking of this astonishing piece. With spectacular lighting by Eric Loustau-Carrère and set against a hurricane of sound, the six dancers led by Ikeda, transform themselves into the witches, priestesses and creatures from the myths and legends of ancient Greece and Japan. Prepare to be amazed. Dance Umbrella 2006. Robin Howard Dance Theatre
