User Review: 11Jan01: Coppelia is a jewel, placed in the prettiest of late 19th-century settings, and the version the Royal Ballet owns is unique and fascinating. Dame [Ninette De Valois] staging has been restored to us in joyous and welcome style. User Review: 11Jan01: One thing I found rather shocking: the inability of our fit, athletic Royal ballerinas to hold a plain arabesque on a flat foot without wobbling like amateurs. [Mikayo Yoshida] and [Leanne Benjamin] both struggled with theirs, and the successive ladies blessed with the pious Prayer solo were just as bad. De Valois would never have stood for it. Osbert Lancaster s children s storybook designs are delightfully rustic and faux naif, vibrant with whimsy and period charm. But much of the staging is fusty and dramatically tired. User Reviews
