Sound Script - Sugarwater/Peeled/Ronsaria

Run time approx. 1hr 30mins inclu. interval. Sound Script is a triple bill of international choreography performed by ten international dancers. Although strong in welsh identity, Diversions brings dance talent from across the world to perform under the Welsh banner throughout the UK and abroad. There is choreography from the Netherlands, America and the UK danced by professional dancers from Poland, Australia, Nova Scotia - the list goes on. Sugarwater is the premiére work by revered young choreographer Stephen Shropshire. Living and working in the Netherlands; the European axis point for contemporary dance, Shropshire’s work has been characterised as cinematic in its scope and as a trained musician as well as dancer, music features powerfully in the work too. This production will see the concept of ‘beats on Handel’ combined with lyrical physical movement providing a unique contemporary twist on classical traditions. Peeled is a new work by renowned Israeli choreographer Itzik Galili that combines innovative lighting, a charged modern percussion score and exhilarating and ferocious movement that is true testament to the expertise of the company’s dancers. The work was toured throughout the UK during the company’s spring tour as well as being toured to international dance festivals in Athens and Poland this summer where it was met with astounding critical acclaim. Ronsaria is the revival piece of the programme, first showcased by Dance Umbrella and performed by Diversions throughout 1984. Choreographed by Tony Thatcher, this is a cheerful and zany piece, where dance and music lead independent lives, as a score by Donizetti is interspersed by live and therefore unpredictable radio mixes. This is the crazy and comedy element in the programme, and one not to be missed.
