Don Quixote

Based on the original tale by Cervantes. The ballet follows the adventures of Kitri, the adventurous peasant girl, who runs off to a gypsy encampment with her sweetheart, the local barber Basilio, rather than follow her father's wish that she marry the outrageously silly, but wealthy Gamache. After romantic and comic complications including a sword-fight, tilting at the windmill and a moonlit pas de deux, chivalrous Don Quixote resourcefully ensures a happy ending.

New Production. Sponsored (2001) by The Jean Sainsbury Royal Opera House Fund, the Benefactors' Circle and The Friends of Covent Garden. There will be a BBC Radio 3 live broadcast on Saturday 22 September. Approx running time 2 hours 50 minutes.
