Trimatrix.Three Movements and Salamandra's Dream. Picture
Lora Juodkait is regarded as one of the most promising artists working in Lithuania today. A young dancer and choreographer who graduated from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in 2005, she has already gained two awards in Lithuania this year: the country's most pretigious arts award, the Golden Stage Cross, for the best debut production of the theatre season. She also received the Sketch Award set up by Philip Morris Baltic to honour the brightest young dance creator of the year.
Salamandra's Dream - Picture is a dance diptych based around themes of transformation and renewal, inspired by an amphibian salamandra. Regarded in the Middle Ages as a messenger from hell and a symbol of alchemy, this fabled creature is able to regenerate lost parts of its body.
Trimatrix. Three Movements is based on a score by percussionist Tomas Dobrovolskis and was made with the intention of uniting three different polymetric lines. Lora Juodkaite's trio implemented the composer's ideas by creating three different choreographic lines representing the three forms of water existing in nature: ice, liquid and steam.
