Production details

International Workshop Festival complete their 2008 events with Filling The Space - A dynamic finale of multi-layered performance at Southwark’s Siobhan Davies Studios. Filling The Space combines two of their most successful residencies: Open Space and Spoken Space with an exclusive showcase from Trestle Theatre taking inspiration from contemporary Polish theatre practice. The evening begins at 7pm with Spoken Space. After the resounding success of this autumn’s Spoken Space events at London’s Poetry Café, December’s blockbuster evening delivers more brand new, text-based, work from local and international artists, actors, poets, dancers, musicians and monologists, all performers who write and writers who perform. December’s Spoken Space performers are Jonas Froberg, a doctor turned actor and artistic director of Teatre Spira in Sweden, a company based on exploring the people behind modern science, thought and industry. In 2006 Froberg was an artist in residence at Volvo Trucks and his appearance is partially sponsored by the Swedish Embassy. Katy Pearce, a recent and critically acclaimed graduate of Laban who presents Dancing her Speaking her Writing her Dancing and finally Ben Elsey who presents TENMOTH ELECTRON (examples of personal and extra personal tragedy). Through music and storytelling Ben attempts "To make people feel better about their lives by describing boring, embarrassing or failed things that may have happened". The Open Space acts as a stepping-stone for new emerging choreographers, dance companies and directors. The event is also becoming renowned for established artists to perform new work-in-progress. Previous Open Space performances have come courtesy of critically acclaimed new company MIKS, returning this December & Place Prize winner Adam Linder. MIKS is a dance collective run by Anaïs Bouts, Sara Lindström and Ida Uvaas. Highlighted in Time Out’s Rising Talent feature earlier this year, their work n+3 is the culmination of a trilogy and is typically playful, inventive and humorous. Also Zoe Solomons, muses on and questions life, love and beauty in her signature work: Love Is. Panic Lab, choreographed by Joseph Mercier delivers Cruising, Clubbing and Fucking - An exploration of the gestures, physical language and spatial relationships by which gay men meet other men for sex and lastly Stacy Abalogun’s Flat Feet Dance Company present Sleep, in which a young boy wakes to find himself trapped in a mental institution. Performances commence at 8pm. Leading storytelling physical theatre company Trestle Theatre have been collaborating this month with theatre practitioners trained by the inspirational and respected Polish companies Song of the Goat and Gardzienice, exploring storytelling through physical theatre and song. The results of this rare collaboration will be showcased as an exclusive performance at December’s Filling The Space adding an extra special element to this abundant evening of performance.
