Mis-Thread - /Bf/Silence Speaks Volumes/Set in Stone
London Contemporary Dance School graduate Freddie Opoku-Addaie returns to The Place with an evening of four engaging works, including the 2008 Robin Howard Commission. The new commission uses elements of folk and ritualistic forms, including Ghanaian Adwa dance, sign language and codes of non-verbal street language in a search to unlock the secrets of physical communication. Bf, devised and performed by Jorge Crecis and Opoku-Addaie, sees both men trapped in a ritual of dominance and perseverance, searching for comradeship. In Silence Speaks Volumes, which was a finalist in The Place Prize 2006, five performers stalk the stage in an intense physical dialogue that communicates more potently than speech. Set in Stone was originally commissioned for the Youth Dance England Festival 2008 and will be re-created and performed by members of East London Dance Youth Company and Shift, The Place’s youth dance company.
