Jamaican-born Garth Fagan, is the highly acclaimed Olivier and Tony award winning choreographer of Broadway's
The Lion King, and is one of the great reformers of modern dance. His experimental choreography and technique draws on many dance forms from Afro-Caribbean to classical. Garth Fagan Dance has been cited for its excellence and originality with a New York Governor's Art Award. The Company's 15 dancers are renowned for their individuality, their natural, unstylised approach, and their sheer physical virtuosity. Programme two includes
Mix 25, a blend of eclectic musical selections: a solo danced to the astoundingly arresting sound of modern jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, a beautiful quartet set to a Brahms' cello sonata, a trio set to John Cage, and a final celebration accompanied by Foday Susa Suso. The two programmes will be completed with new and existing works from the Garth Fagan Dance repertoire.
