Dancing the Book of Esther, with elongated lines, striking shifts of the body, and virtuoso passages for the male dancers, the Győr Ballet Company with the Budapest Klezmer Band combine Biblical heroism, ballet narrative and klezmer music in this dramatic work which draws on the themes of love, loyalty and freedom as it tells the story of Esther who sacrificed her personal desires to save her people. The ballet finds - in sharp leaps, keening backbends, and unusual port de bras - the physical language of the energetic yet poignant music.
