American Man - T0301988435World Premiere. Visual artist and Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate Hetain Patel returns with a new one-man show, building on his critically acclaimed production, American Boy, first seen at Sadler's Wells in 2014. Dealing with issues of race, gender and identity, American Man imagines a not-too-distant future where celebrity power and political correctness have reached new heights: a future where Barack Obama's post-Presidential role is CEO of Apple, while Stephen Hawking and Oprah Winfrey shape policies. The work combines seamless vocal and physical impersonations with Patel's characteristic wit and humour.

American Boy - T0743744538Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate Hetain Patel is a visual artist whose work for the stage has been attracting growing acclaim. His practice crosses a number of art forms with the body and identity as core concerns. Major international institutions have shown his work including Tate Modern and the Southbank Centre, Sydney Festival, Bodhi Art New York, Ullens Centre for Contemporary Arts in China and Chatterjee and Lal in Mumbai. Following sold out performances at Sadler's Wells and a national tour in 2014, Hetain Patel returns to the stage with his one-man show American Boy, a personal and humorous take on identity shape-shifting. Inspired by American movie culture and homemade YouTube videos, Patel looks at the multiple personas that we all inhabit in our day-to-day lives. Through a seamless synthesis of vocal and physical limitations, he revisits character impressions from his playground days: see Agent Smith from the Matrix argue with Michael Caine whilst Eddie Murphy dances alongside Spider-Man. Running time: 50mins (no interval). Contains strong language.

TEN - T01224807760I always thought counting to ten was easy...Somewhere between Bolton, Barbados, Scotland and India three men, Hetain, Mark and Dave, make a journey of discovery. Taking music and the Indian ten-beat rhythm cycle as a starting point, this performance delves with endearing honesty and humour into the usually dry questions of cultural identity.
