Details

Ikuyo Kuroda, Japanese choreographer and founder of Batik, won first prize at the Toyota Choreography Awards for the female sextet Side B. Her work evokes rage, chaos and fear in an unpredictable mix of looming shadows and rhythmic stomping bodies. Using handheld torches, parts of the body are at once framed in bright light, only to be plunged into darkness at the flick of a switch.
