In Gesture and Glance: The Female Role Player in Asian Dance and Theatre

The female role player as performer has taken a crucial role in the formation of traditional Asian theatre and dance. This programme aims to introduce the artistry of this particular ole play in the performing arts of Asia, including Japan, as well as to re-evaluate its contemporary significance. The event has already appeared to great success in Japan in 2001. In Gesture and Glance incorporates a selection of dances from four Asian countries. In turn, Masanosuke Gojo from Japan, Pandit Gopal Dubey from India, Didik Nini Thowok from Indonesia and Zhao Zhigang from China will perform to traditional music in order to convey the style and movement within their respective countries.
