Details

India Dance Wales is the first and only professional Indian Dance Company in Wales, with extensive experience of working in education. Formed in 1993 as the Kiran Ratna Company, the pioneering spirit of the company has created innovative and challenging work based on Classical Indian Dance involving other art forms such as storytelling and visual art. Led by Artistic Director Kiran Ratna, India Dance Wales is one of the foremost Indian dance organisations in the UK. This new original work of Bharatanatyam dance explores Nava (meaning 9) and Rasa (meaning evoking inner emotion). The performance reaches out to hearts and minds through the experiences of Nataraja (the lord of dance) as he feels all nine emotions: namely Shigara (love), Veera (Valour), Karuna (compassion), Adbhuda (wonder), Hasya (laughter), Bhaya (fear), Bheebhatsa (disgust), Raudra (anger) and Shanta (peace). Navarasa is followed by a dynamic piece called Tillana choreographed by the acclaimed Delhi-based Leela Sampson. Featuring guest Carnatic musicians from India: Bharathi Venugopal (vocals), Sumod Sridhar (percussion) and Thiagarajan Ramani (flute and violin). India Dance Wales - Navarasa (9 emotions) website.
