Any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones - T367100714

UK Premiere. In any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones, Jan Martens presents a production about the power that lies in being different. Performed by a 17-strong, unconventional corps de ballet of unique personalities. The diverse group spans generations, the youngest being 17 and the eldest 70, with differences in training and background. The dancers seek their own voice. One by one they claim their place on stage, without cutting off the others. They are supported by a soundtrack that consists of unconventional protest songs from different ages - including Polish composer Henryk Gorecki, jazz musicians Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln, and spoken word artist Kae Tempest.

Ode to the Attempt (a Solo for Meself) - T896051272

Ode to the Attempt is a solo that Jan Martens created for himself. After producing some almost dogmatic pieces like The Dog Days are Over (2014) and Sweat Baby Sweat (2011), this solo is a safe zone for Martens to fool around in. The result is a collage-like self-portrait laying bare choreographic and other choices and his way of working and living. Authenticity, manipulation, coolness, perfectionism, humour and melancholy form the extremes between which Martens moves, wondering whether he is part of the new generation. In this solo Martens provides insight into his way of working and living. He bares himself before you, inviting you to have a look in his head and his computer.

Rule of Three - T01554164460

UK Premiere. One of the most original Belgian choreographers of his generation, Jan Martens present his new work RULE OF THREE. Falling somewhere between concert and short stories, it features American drummer NAH performing live with three dancers to recreate the atmosphere of a nightclub. Rhythm, light and movement accumulate, before being stripped back in an untamed meditation.

The Dog Days Are Over - T1806702387

The Dog Days Are Over is a scorching performance made up of only one physical action: the jump. It is a repetitive fever dream, an exhausting battle in which the dancer is staged as a vain, persevering and purely executing species, striving for perfection. Like in a bullfight the crowd is looking down on them, while the dancer is struggling and sweating in the arena. After some intriguing solos and duets about unconventional beauty including the much loved Victor from Festival 2014, Jan Martens has now created a group performance about the thin line between art and entertainment.Presented byJan Martens. Presented byCAMPO.

Sweat Baby Sweat - T01359131796

UK Premiere. sweat baby sweat is a duet about all-consuming love, in which the two performers can't - and won't - let go of one another. The physically and mentally entwined couple move together, skin to skin, in a sublime choreography of extremely slow and highly controlled sequences. This is a searing, minimal production in which images, text, movement and music complement one another perfectly.
